Mozzarella Cheesesteak Stromboli
A delicious twist on the classic cheesesteak, this Mozzarella Cheesesteak Stromboli features tender steak, sautéed vegetables, and gooey mozzarella cheese, all wrapped in a flaky pastry. Perfect for a cozy dinner or game day snack!
Ingredients
- 1 lb 450g flank steak or ribeye, thinly sliced
- 1 sheet puff pastry or pizza dough
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper red, green, or yellow, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms sliced
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
- Fresh parsley chopped (optional for garnish)
- Marinara or dipping sauce of your choice
Instructions
Prepare the Steak:
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the thinly sliced steak and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the steak is browned but still slightly pink in the middle. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Cook the Vegetables:
- In the same skillet, add more oil if necessary, then sauté the onions, bell peppers, and mushrooms until softened and slightly caramelized (about 5-6 minutes). Set aside.
Roll the Dough:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry or pizza dough on a floured surface into a rectangle shape.
- Spread the cooked steak and vegetables evenly down the center of the dough, leaving a border around the edges.
Add the Cheese:
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the steak and vegetable filling.
Fold the Stromboli:
- Carefully fold one side of the dough over the filling, then the other side, sealing the edges by pressing them together.
- Tuck in the ends to ensure the filling doesn’t spill out during baking.
Egg Wash and Bake:
- Place the stromboli seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Optionally, sprinkle fresh parsley on top for added flavor and color.
Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
Serve:
- Let the stromboli cool for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Serve with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor. Feel free to customize the filling with your favorite vegetables or cheese!
