Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt

  • Food coloring

Instructions
 

Prepare the Dough:

  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing well.

Mix Dry Ingredients:

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, blending until just combined.

Chill the Dough:

  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Roll and Cut:

  • Roll the dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface. Use cookie cutters to create festive shapes.

Bake:

  • Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely on a cooling rack.

Decorate:

  • Use royal icing, food coloring, and sprinkles to decorate the cookies. Allow icing to set before serving or storing.

  • Chill the dough for better shape retention while baking.
  • Use gel food coloring for more vibrant icing.
  • Adjust baking time for smaller or larger cookies.
